MikMak
Environmental Branding
Neco Collective serves Knotel as a member of their Environmental Branding Team. The strategy behind MikMak’s new corporate office is to instill a sense of pride for the company while projecting a welcoming and cool workspace through the use of color. Neco surveyed the office to obtain the necessary information to thoroughly plan and build out this branded environment.
The office is a long, open plan with conference rooms of various sizes that line the perimeter, all with glass walls and doors. The largest motifs included a continuous gradient across all of the glass, a 6” deep dimensional logo, and a custom-designed drop ceiling system added to the kitchen.
Our print and fabrication teams surveyed the space to efficiently install all moments placing special consideration for any existing structures that needed to remain accessible – electrical, plumbing, vents, and other permanent fixtures.
The glass gradient was printed on optically clear adhesive vinyl, tiled to match the measurements of each glass panel perfectly, giving the glass walls and doors a flowing color dynamic along the entire office.
The dimensional logo was routed in MDF, framed in plywood, the returns wrapped in wiggle board, then painted to match the same color and finish of all the walls and surfaces encompassing the office. The finished MikMak logo looks as if it extrudes from the wall itself! Albeit, this didn't just happen. We designed and exacted the build, accounted for the existing electrical, and incorporated the logo to where it physically floats now.
Knotel also wanted to bring a shopping cart wire grid element to the kitchen. We routed out wire grid panels out of Dibond, painted them in brand colors, and installed a custom drop ceiling system, then dropped the panels into place. The actual ceiling has a sprinkler system running just beneath and vents around the walls. But with this design, everything remained easily accessible and within regulation. The existing recessed halogen bulbs cast a dramatic effect on the room.
We provided the strategy and, with Knotel’s art direction and concept approval, we mechanically designed and engineered all the three-dimensional elements. Our print production, custom fabrication, painting, finishing, logistics, and installation teams were all engaged from concept to completion.
